June 27: Allyse competed alongside teammate Tabitha Yim to earn a berth on the Olympic Selection Team; there would be no announcement as to who would make the team today, but all the athletes could earn was the chance to be selected. The original 16 athletes fell to 15 when fellow Pacific Alliance teammate Katie Heenan scratched the meet. The event, staged in Anaheim, CA, only miles away from Allye's home, would be the most import of her life, and she not only rose to the occasion, but also turned a lot of heads with her 8-for-8 performance and stylish gymnastics.
By the end of the second day, Allyse finished 5th place all around with a combined total of 74.850, scoring no lower than 9.20 on floor on day one. Her coaches decided to "up the snuff" for the meet by adding a full-twisting double back third tumbling run into her routine, but she suffered a low landing, and her score reflected that; she removed the skill the second day.
Although the Olympic Squad will be announced 12 days from now, there has already been a casualty on the potential roster. Tabitha Yim, Allyse's teammate and close friend, suffered and Achilles tear and was forced to withdrawal from the selection. All of us at allyseishino.com wish her a speedy recovery and a successful future!
Also, make sure to tune into NBC on July 18th at 7:45 p.m. EDT during track & field. Eastern for the announcement of who makes the Olympic Team! The time period is vague at this point as to what time it will be announced, but we will be sure to give you the latest information as soon as it is available.
